You don’t want to wait until your roof is caving in or there is extensive water damage to your home to suddenly need a new roof! Your roof is one of the most important aspects of your home, and one of the first defense mechanisms against mother nature. Your roof is something that is very easy to forget about or take for granted. Below are warning signs your roof needs to be replaced.
Missing Shingles
After a storm sometimes it can be the best time to look around your yard for shingles that may have flown off of your roof. If you do see shingles in your yard, that now means that part of your roof is vulnerable and could be more susceptible to leaks.
Curling Shingles
This is one of the most common signs of a rapidly deteriorating roof that is in need of serious repair or replacement. This could be due to poor installation, unusually cold weather, inadequate ventilation and more. When your shingles begin to curl, they become rigid and then will fall off. But this then will result in leaks and mold, which then leads to replacement.
Rotting Wood
Wood around your gutter system can begin to rot if your gutters are clogged or damaged, or iif shingles were improperly installed. This overflow of water and debris will cause the wood your gutter is mounted to, too begin to rot.
Water Stains on Your Ceiling
This is probably the most obvious sign your roof needs replacement, spotting water on your ceilings indicates a sign of weakness in your roof that needs immediate attention.
Droopy or Sagging Roof
This sign you need a new roof is usually easier to spot and usually more common in much older homes. The amount of water that has gotten into wooden beams has begun to warp the shape of your roof. This can be due to rotting, weight from snow and more.
Your Home is More Than 20 Years Old
As a roof and a home ages, 20 years seems to be around the time that most classical roofs need to be replaced. As a roof is subject to nature’s elements every single day, it is more likely to age faster than any other part of your home. If you don’t know how old your roof is, look into some of the history, or ask your neighbors the last time they got their roof replaced.
